Criminal Appeals Lawyer in Northeast Ohio

Trumbull · Mahoning · Ashtabula

An appeal isn’t a new trial. It’s a review of whether the law was applied correctly in your case. I read the full record, find the legal errors that matter and present them in clear, straightforward arguments.

Deadlines Are Short

  • Ohio state cases: the notice of appeal is generally due 30 days after the judgment entry.

  • Ohio Supreme Court: generally 45 days after the court of appeals decides.

If you’ve missed a deadline, call anyway. Delayed appeals and other options are sometimes available.

Courts

  • 11th District Court of Appeals: Trumbull and Ashtabula Counties

  • 7th District Court of Appeals: Mahoning County

  • Supreme Court of Ohio

What I Look For

  • Evidence that should have been suppressed

  • Mistakes in jury instructions

  • Insufficient evidence for a conviction

  • Sentences that don’t follow the law

  • Problems with a plea, including whether it was knowing and voluntary

  • Ineffective assistance of trial counsel

How It Works

  1. Free review of your judgment entry and deadline.

  2. File the notice of appeal to protect your rights.

  3. Order and review the transcript and record.

  4. Write the brief and, if scheduled, argue the case.

  5. Next steps after the decision, including further review if it makes sense.

Fees

Appeals are quoted after I review the judgment and the size of the record. Payment plans available.
